High-Fall Training Course

Big air bag The high-fall is another building block for the stunt performer. Anything over three stories would be considered a high-fall and every stunt performer should be able to fall at least that high. High-falls can be dangerous and we cannot stress this point enough!

Some of the best stunt people in the industry have been killed while performing high-falls, and every precaution should be taken when performing them.

To complicate matters more, knowing how to fall is not enough. Often you will be in dangerous situations, sometimes on fire, or perhaps diving thru a window. Some times you may have to incorporate an air ram into a high fall.

The high-fall course will teach every student the basic high-fall maneuvers, including, but not limited to: Headers, Face-off, Back fall, and Suicide. Students will be taught to incorporate acting technique into their falls, such as getting shot or having to get punched.

ALL STUDENTS WILL LEARN AT THEIR OWN LEVEL AND SPEED; NO STUDENTS WILL BE PUSHED BEYOND THEIR LIMITS.

Students will learn the importance of safety spotters while doing high-falls.

Discussion on what is the function of a spotter
Positions around the air bag.
What to do when the stunt performer hits the bag.

Students will learn how and when to use the box catcher instead of an air bag.

Air bags for thirty-foot high-falls and higher.
Box catchers in areas when an air bag is too bulky or for lower falls.

Students will learn how to build a safe box catcher for different heights.

Different box sizes for different falls and heights.
Proper use of tarps and ropes.
When to use stiffeners, when to soften boxes/cut boxes.

Students will start out with low-falls into the air bag, learning how to land.

Ten foot falls learning how to do a header and a face-off
How to incorporate acting into falls.

Students will be given a written and physical test on high falls and different catchers
